The Many Faces of Evan Oberholster
Evan Oberholster will be presenting a striking new body of work at the inaugural Open Studios Fish Hoek and Clovelly, taking place from 3–5 October 2025.
This latest series delves into the expressive power of the human face through a collection of handcrafted clay masks — a vivid interplay of emotion, texture, and colour. Some are raku fired, revealing the medium’s signature cracked glaze; others are ornately glazed and patterned, layered with detail. Many are adorned with intricately crafted plastic headdresses, introducing unexpected contrasts and infusing the work with a bold, contemporary edge.
Each mask captures a different emotional register — from serene stillness to raw intensity — inviting viewers into a deeply human exploration of inner states.
Experience this evocative and thought-provoking series during Open Studios Fish Hoek & Clovelly, a vibrant community art event featuring 19 artists across 15 studio spaces.
